When I started, I didn’t know how to become a successful freelance writer. I knew I wanted to write and make money at home, so I jumped in right away. I found Elance, bid on my first project, won and moved on.Since then, almost nine years have gone by.
Although I haven’t made $100,000 yet, I am committed to doing so in the next two years. My plan? Use my freelance and internet marketing skills.
Still, I don’t think it’s hard at all to be a successful freelance writer.
If you’re a good writer, want to do a good job, and are willing to “go with the flow,” you can and will succeed in this business.
Here are more tips for those just starting out
1. Meet other freelance writers who are doing well:
There are many successful freelance writers on the Internet. Let’s take Elance as an example. There are hundreds of writers out there, and each of them makes thousands of dollars a month writing. Make an effort to meet as many people as you can. You can find forums online. Access to groups of authors working independently. Do everything you can to connect with people.
2. Strive to improve your writing skills:
Read and use what you know to improve your writing skills. Ask others to give feedback on your work and keep improving.
3. Don’t let fear win:
When you’re just starting out as a freelance writer, it can be daunting. You may not have a steady income and may be afraid to try new things. But don’t let fear control you. You may have good times and bad, but as long as you persevere, you will thrive.
4. Write every day:
Write emails, stories, articles or anything you can think of to improve your writing skills. Keep writing until you can no longer hold the pen. If you write, you will do better.
5. Ask successful people for help:
Work with a more experienced writer who can show you the basics. You can pay for their time or trade services with them in exchange for help. This puts you on the fast track to freelance success. They will give you useful feedback, maybe some work, and very constructive criticism.
6. Do your best to make your customers happy every time:
There are many authors who invent things. Those who say they can do anything are just talking nonsense. Remember, the best things come at the top. When you are the best, clients will always want to work with you and you don’t have to worry about projects.
7. Set realistic financial goals:
For example, if you know you need $1,000 a month, create a plan to learn how to get that money. For example, are you writing two eBooks, five short reports, or 50 articles?
8. Don’t give up your skills for a low salary:
Freelancing can be a tough business. Some writers are willing to work for pennies. Do not do that. If you’re starting out, you should charge less since you haven’t made a name for yourself yet. However, you should know your value and increase the price as soon as possible.
9. Do internet marketing and freelance writing:
I believe that all writers should learn how to market their writing skills. So spend some time learning about internet marketing.
10. Have fun:
Take some time to have fun. Don’t get so busy being a freelance writer that you forget to enjoy the little things in life. Small pleasures like walking on the beach, eating ice cream with the kids, or soaking your feet in the tub should be done regularly. This will keep your mind open to new ideas and keep your spirits up.
